RDTEX has optimized the card system performance in "AK BARS" Bank
The project of migrating processing system to newer firmware in "AK BARS" Bank has been completed.
RDTEX specialists were invited by the partner company "TISSA" for optimizing the performance of the information system which supports the whole cycle of transactions with payment cards emitted by the Bank. The optimization was carried out as a part of the works related to audit of the Bank's IT-infrastructure conformity with payment cards industry data security standards (PCI DSS), the latest version of which came into force since the 1st of January 2011.
"AK BARS" Bank offers more than 100 banking services both for corporate and private clients, who account for 47,000 and 2 millions correspondently. Today the Bank has over 860 cash issue affiliates throughout Russia, every ATM takes payments, the users get SMS-notification about all transactions performed with the card.
As the Bank needed to meet the demands of the renewed PCI DSS, the migration of plastic cards database from Oracle Database 10g to Oracle Database 11g was performed and OS on the industrial and reserve servers was renewed from Oracle Solaris 9 to Oracle Solaris 10. During the works the database on the industrial server was transferred to new more capacious and quick disks, that led to more rapid processing of clients data.
The Bank's database - the object of the migration - works 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, that's why in order to decrease the downtime during migration, some database components not used in its work at the moment were deleted (Ultra Search, InterMedia, Oracle Spatial an so on). It allowed to reduce the downtime by 40 minutes.
After the industrial migration the database performance was monitored, SQL-commands and regular statistical reports were adjusted. The time needed for creating a number of analytical reports was decreased from several hours to 1-4 minutes, that allows to raise the speed and the efficiency of managerial decisions-making including those that influence the service quality.
During post-migration support no problem in the database operation was found. Thus, the migration of the Bank's processing system was finished in time and without any crucial mistakes.
